Fine Little Day’s Gothenburg Guide

Finally I’m putting together my own guide to Gothenburg, Sweden. So far it’s under construction but I’m sure you’ll find some of it already there useful.

Fabriken, Ekedalsgatan 16. Great second hand shop.

Once Upon a Time, Olivedalsgatan 18. A must visit shop when in Gothenburg. Excellent, handpicked old and new + their own clothing range.

Bebop, Kaponjärgatan 4. Great range, nice sign.

Saronkyrkan, Brunnsgatan 5. Second hand store. Open at Thursday’s 16.00 – 19.00 and Saturday’s 10.00 – 13.00.

More second hand:
Holmens marknad, Kämpegatan 12. Big second hand store, open every day.
Ebbes hörna, Vallgatan 1.
Myrorna, Järntorgsgatan 10.
Emmaus, Linnégatan 9.

Way Cup Café, Järntorget 3. focuses on recycling, organic and fair trade food and drink. My favorite “Autumn Mushroom Delight” soup is served in a recycled glass jar.

The Da Matteo cafés are definitely the best ones in town. Coffee drinkers says that the coffee is exceptionally good here. The hot chocolate is tasty as well, speaking from own experience. Friendly staff and nice atmospheres.

Sprängkullsgatan 10A
Magasinsgatan 17A
Vallgatan 5
Södra Larmgatan 14

Two Little Birds, Andra Långgatan 5. Café and art gallery.

Eat here also:
Strömmingsluckan, Magasinsgatan 17.
Bönor Bagels, Linnegatan 48.

Sjutton kvadratmeter lakrits, Plantagegatan 13. The one and only liquorice store in town, Some of what you can buy here: liquorice tea, liquorice bread, liquorice pasta, liquorice pralines, liquorice perfume and after shave, liquorice pastilles, salt liquorice, sweet liquorice, long rods of liquorice, short rods of liquorice, hard liquorice, soft liquorice, organic liquorice, liquorice juice..

Artilleriet, Magasinsgatan 19.

Kvart, Slottsskogsgatan 46. Interior shop. Definitely worth a visit.

Friends of Form, Kyrkogatan 13. Design shop runned by local designers.

Prickig Katt, Vallgatan 3. Fun shop, a lot to look at.

Ann-Loise Landelius’ shop. ”On Thursdays and the last Saturday of every month (or whenever she’s there)”. The most stylish of my friends have them – Ann-Louise Landelius’s bags.

Lerverk, Lilla Kyrkogatan 1. Ceramic shop and gallery.

Sintra, Landsvägsgatan 5. Ceramic shop and gallery.

Hagabadet, Södra Allégatan 3. Brilliant place for a swim, workout or lunch.

Sjöfartsmuseet, Karl Johansgatan 1–3. Maritime Museum.

Göteborgs Naturhistoriska Museum, Museivägen 10. Wild animals from the whole world.

If you visit with kids you should definitely visit Slottsskogen and Plikta, Gothenburg’s best playground. You can also finde Barnens Zoo (children’s zoo) and Djurgårdarna (a family animal park) here. Don’t miss the feeding of the seals at 2 pm!

And at the same location, Göteborgs Naturhistoriska Museum, (above).

More for the kids:
Krabat, Södra Larmgatan 2. Toy store.
The science center Universeum, can also be worth it.
Liseberg, Amusement park.

Emma & Malena, Vallgatan 4.
Grandpa, Vallgatan 3.
Mouche, Västra Hamngatan 24–26.
Miss Ragtime, Magasinsgatan 15. Vintage.

Other good places to visit in Gothenburg are Röda StenGöteborgs Konstmuseumand Botaniska Trädgården, the largest botanical garden in Sweden.

If you come in the summertime I would recommend to visit the beautiful southern archipelago, Styrsö, Brännö, Donsö, Köpstadsö and Vrångö, nice for bathing and excursions, all accessible by public ferries which leave from Saltholmen.

Unfortunately I don´t have any good tip for hotels or youth hostels, but I´m sure that you can find tip on the web.
