Bohemian children’s wear

“Bohemian children’s wear inspired by far-off places, designed whilst daydreaming, made to treasure…”

Having worked in the fashion industry for the past decade Apolina founder and proud mama Caroline, had always loved bohemian embroidered dresses and set about trying to find some teeny versions for her daughters Veda and Bon.

We had the honor to host Caroline and her family in our country house this summer, I just love these peeps from their stay AND all other cuteness!

Wonderful ABC book / Giveaway

You who has followed this blog for a while, and maybe stumbled on interviews with me, might know that I, when I get the question, often mention Mieke Willems blog as my own personal favorite when it comes to blogs. I was therefore thrilled when Mieke Verbijlen told me that she and two other great talantes Katrein Hendrickx and Renalde de Peuter has made a book, an ABC book in true Mieke Willems-spirit! Look at this wonderful video from the book.

If you want you can join a giveaway hold on Instagram and maybe get the chance to hold this treasure in you hands. Check out the terms here.

You can also of course, buy it your self here for example.

“A boy, bugs, an illusion, a jungle, a kiss and New York have very little in common, save that they can be named with the sounds our mouths can make, and written down with the letters of our alphabet. And of course: that they all belong to our infinite world, of which the alphabet book ABC brings together a few coincidental things that are worth collecting.

Like any alphabet book, this ABC contains a word for each letter of the alphabet. But the things and thoughts those words refer to are not just depicted. How could they do that, considering just how much world one single word can evoke? How miraculous are words, if you think of it? Likewise, the photos, children’s drawings, handicrafts and other stuff in the book contain all sorts of colours and forms, and follow all kinds of associations and lines of thought.

ABC is the result of a collaboration of three friends, who – each in their own way – see the world as an excuse to look around and get working with their gaze, words and thoughts. Consequently, ABC is not just a children’s book, but above all a childishly complex book for young and older people who know fire comes in different shapes, or have a clear image of that big city they have never been to, or ask themselves what cherries taste like.”

Congrats to winner and Insta user: thetinyacorn!

Bobo Choses new SS14 collection MANIFESTO

“The vintage wardrobe is no longer a wardrobe. It’s a time-machine. We open its doors and begin a journey back to those hot summers, bringing old sunny holidays souveniers with our friends around the swiming-pool. A reunion of all we were, believed in and loved through our favourite garments.”

So much summer in Bobo Choses new SS14 collection MANIFESTO and retro – in the clothes as well as in the photographs. Congrats Bobo Choses to another successful collection!

Cappies and Lanas

Patrícia married Andre and they got a son, Manuel. And that pretty much sums up how things started. In the beginning of motherhood Patrícia found it difficult to find comfortable and at the same time cool looking clothes for her baby. Since she has always loved African patterns, Patrícia was happy when Andre began traveling to Mozambique and bringing some of these fantastic fabrics back home. Patrícia started by making clothes for her self, and then to Manuel. After a while other people and friends started to ask her to make clothes for their children – and Cappies and Lanas was born.

“I love to see kids wearing some unusual colors and garments and that was kind of what first motivated me.”

About the word “Capulana”
Capulana is a sarong worn in areas of south-eastern Africa but primarily in Mozambique. Women cover their body, head and even carry their babies in it. The garment is usually rich patterned in bright colors.

Depends on who is looking?

When we bought our country house a couple of years ago, we inherited a bunch of nice things from the former owner. This beutiful, old Emmaljunga pram for example. Actually we inherited two of them but since one is good enough (not even having any small children anymore) the other one was sent to recycling. The one we kept is old and rather dirty but still rocks nice when it rolls. Anyway I wanted to stage our new GRAN blanket together with the pram so I brushed it off and rolled it out in the autumn meadow.

I wanted to capture a “romantic” feeling there in the afternoon. The brown blanket fit nicely into the soft, and and still quite lush garden and the old beauty. Then I showed the photos to my husband who pointed out the “horror movie” pontesial in the photos. Well he liked them he said, but in his eyes they were kind of scary. Not exactly the tone I had planned.

Well, hope you can look at them with the romantic glasses on, and hope you like the new brown.

Another new blanket color, Lily Black.

More nice, old Emmaljunga pram models here.
